Resumo

The last years showed quite a high investment activity in the upgrading of existing cold rolling facilities and the building of new cold rolling plants. The reason to put the focus on the finishing side is certainly the good profit prospects in this area. To achieve this prospects a cost-effective production combined high quality standards is required, which needs the installation of a superior and innovative automation solutions. VAI could convince major clients to put the whole responsibility for their projects into one hand. Which means to buy a complete solution consisting of mechanics, electrics and automation from VAI. In the meantime the decision of the clients are proven correct, because the first results of those projects are available now. One of the most important projects in this respect is the new cold rolling mill facility for Bethlehem Steel (BSC) in Sparrows Point / US which is in the final phase of the commissioning now. Another major project was the revamp of an existing cold tandem mill for SIDMED / Spain, which was converted into a continuos tandem mill. A recent success for VAI-Automation is the awarded contract for Duferco Belgium, site La Louviere, where the whole mechanical and electrical equipment and the automation system was awarded to VAI on a turnkey basis. The project La Louviere consists equally of a coupled pickle-tandem mill as key part, and in addition of a new galvanization line, two new painting lines and the revamp of a reversible cold rolling mill.
