Resumo

This work presents a mathematical modeling, designed and utilized since 1994 by PUC-Rio & Tecnored, devised to predict the behavior of a single pellet during its reduction in the upper zone of the Tecnored furnace. On a very effective way, based on the results of the pilot plant development, the mathematical modeling of the heating and reduction processes of a self-reducing pellet into the upper shaft of the furnace, had been calibrated and has proved to be extremely important to the understanding of the phenomena occurring in this zone of the furnace and to be a powerful tool to implement improvements to the process.
