Additive manufacturing (AM) can no longer regarded merely as a rapid prototyping technology and has come to occupy a strategic position in industrial supply chains, especially in sectors characterized by remote assets, high downtime costs, component obsolescence, demand-driven spare part replacement, and stringent safety requirements. The adoption of AM has been associated with lead-time reduction, the strengthening of digital inventories, distributed manufacturing, and the development of ecosystems involving suppliers, science and technology institutions, and certification bodies. However, the current challenge lies in building technical confidence through standards, process qualification, manufacturer certification, part qualification approval, traceability, inspection, quality management, and operational acceptance. This article presents a technical and narrative review of the role of ISO/ASTM, DNV, API, AWS, and IOGP standards and guidelines in the industrialization of AM, highlighting the concepts of risk-based qualification, criticality levels, digital thread, digital warehouse, digital part readiness, and material digital passport. It is discussed that industrial AM should be understood as a regulated and auditable infrastructure in which material, machine, process parameters, operator, post-processing, testing, documentation, and life cycle form an indivisible assurance chain..
