The Industrial Solutions and Services Group of Siemens AG was awarded a contract by HKM Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH for the complete retrofitting of the electrical equipment at the HKM Blast Furnace B in Duisburg-Huckingen, Germany. The scope of supply included replacements of low-voltage switchgear and drive systems, the modernization of instrumentation and field technology with sensors and measurement. The new peripheral and instrumentation devices e.g. the drive system Simover Masterdrive are connected to the process control via Profibus DP and Profibus PA field bus systems. Main focus of the modernization was the installation of a new basic automation system with the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system. The basis for the plant application software solution was the SIMELT Automation technological library, which includes application modules designed especially for the technical functions of the iron and steel making. This was an excellent basis for an on-time nearly trouble-free commissioning within the scheduled period for the entire electrical modernization project. The Blast Furnace B in HKM was then restarted as scheduled and achieved the scheduled iron production capacity even in a shorter time.
