Resumo

There is an obvious market trend towards seamless tube plants of small to medium tonnage outputs which are capable of producing in an economical manner tubes of high quality, even in small lots. In analyzing the preconditions to be met by such plants for the elongating stage, which influences plant layout and operating costs to a very significant degree, it becomes clear that the cross-rolling processes are of particular suitability. This is demonstrated by the Diescher Mill with restrained mandrel (RMD), which was selected in two cases. In the first, for a mill upgrade and in the other, in a complete new seamless tube plant. Both applications are described in detail together with associated layouts and pertinent technical data.
