Resumo

In order to estimate the distribution ratios of phosphorus (P) and silicon (Si) between sodium carbonate-based slag and molten copper, the thermodynamic properties of slags containing these impurity oxides at 1423 K to 1523 K were studied by the following measurements: Solubility of Na₃PO₄(s) in Na₂CO₃ melt Electrochemical measurements of Na₂O activities in Na₂O–CO₃–XOᵥ slags (where X = P or Si, and V = valence of X) under various CO₂ partial pressures Solubility measurements of CO₂ in the slags Based on the results, the equilibrium distribution ratios of P and Si between the slags and molten copper were estimated as a function of CO₂ and oxygen partial pressures and slag composition. The effectiveness of using sodium carbonate slag for the removal of these impurity elements from molten copper is discussed.
