In recent years, thermodynamic calculations have been widely used to predict phase diagrams of multicomponent systems or to analyse industrial processes. Different models have been developed to describe the thermodynamic behaviour of the various phases which can be solution or non-stoichiometric phases with different structures. The most commonly used models are reviewed. The evaluated parameters are now derived from optimisation techniques which take into account experimental phase diagram and thermodynamic data simultaneously. The numerical techniques are briefly discussed. Finally, selected examples of the applications of the thermodynamic calculations for phase diagrams representation of multicomponent systems are illustrated.
