In the aircraft industry, the welding repair is a task that requires special processes and care. This paper focuses on one of the components of the aircraft engine G.E. CF6-50, that is, the seal. This component is made up by Inconnel 718 alloy and the seal blade repair process has been the TIG with pulsed wire, also known as Dabber-TIG, which allows for a more precise control of the welding dimensions, generates low heat input and also avoids distortions in the welded joint. It has been verified that the Dabber-TIG is a more efficient procedure than the manual TIG. In this sense, many tests have been performed in order to optimize welding parameters by means of this welding procedure. The most important welding parameters have been identified in a preliminary study before beginning the repair welding itself. A system has been devised for positioning the part to be welded in order to control the fusion pool and the welding speed, as well as a protective system to avoid air contamination. The results obtained with the aforementioned welding procedure have allowed to submit the repaired seals to the manufacturer for benchmarking both the repair technique developed, as well as the employed TIG welding with pulsed wire equipment.
