Resumo

The 21st century has arrived and Electric Steel Making will make further progress through innovation. At the leading edge of technology, the Shaft Furnace, with its integrated scrap preheating system, is operated worldwide successfully since more than ten years on the basis of different metallic charge materials starting 1992 at Sheerness Steel, England. Finger Shaft Technology today is the most common Shaft Technology used. Productivity, conversion costs and environmental issues are the convincing parameters of this new technology. A number of examples will be given.
