Resumo

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo investigar as possíveis causas de falha ocorrida no eixo do motor de uma roda de caçamba. O trabalho seguiu a metodologia usual empregada em analise de falhas, incluindo análise visual do componente, macrodureza B, microscopia óptica, impacto Charpy e tração. O material apresentou composição química compatível com o aço SAE 1040. A análise micrográfica óptica mostrou uma microestrutura consistindo de ferrita e perlita. Os valores de dureza, de resistência mecânica, ductilidade e de resistência ao impacto são inferiores aos valores de referência tipicamente encontrados para o aço SAE 1040 na condição normalizada devido à grande presença de defeitos no material. Conclui-se que a falha do eixo ocorreu por um processo de nucleação e propagação de trinca por fadiga, a partir do raio de concordância do eixo.

 

The main aim of this work was to investigate the possible causes of failure occurred in a bucket motor shaft. The work followed the usual methodology employed in failure analysis, including visual analysis, Rockwell B macrohardness, optical microscopy, Charpy impact and tensile tests. The material presented chemical composition compatible with the SAE 1040. The optical micrographic analysis showed a microstructure consisting of ferrite and perlite. The values of hardness, strength, ductility and impact strength are lower than the reference values typically found for the SAE 1040 steel in normalized condition due to the large presence of defects in the material. It was concluded that the failure of the shaft occurred due to nucleation and propagation of fatigue cracks from the fillet radius of the shaft.
