"Polimeric matrix composites with mineral filler reenforcement, in fiber form or micrometric particles, are widely used in many industry areas. On behalf of their dielectric properties, composites application stand out in electrial industry, more specifically as electrical insulation. The use of nanoparticles as composite filler, in place of tradicional micrometric particles, has been shown as promising alternative to overcome limitations of tradicional composites. In this sense, the present work search to investigate how dielectric strength of nanocomposites with epoxy matrix and alumina nanoparticles vary in function of its load particle size. Two types of nanoparticles were used in the fabrication of the nanocomposites. One of them has the narrowest distribution, that varies between 10 – 20 nm, and the other has the widest distribution, that varies between 10 – 50 nm. The dielectric strength tests have shown that improvements in dielectric properties of the nanocomposite with smaller particles were more efficient, while dielectric strength of nanocomposites with bigger particles remained statistically unchanged. It can be explained due to the fact that more interfaces were created with the utilization of smaller particles and its better dispersion, as it is shown by microestructural characterization. "
