EFFECTS OF THE LOW TEMPERATURE AGING ON THE AISI 444 STAINLESS STEEL

Resumo

As conseqüências do envelhecimento a 400oC e 475oC nas propriedades mecânicas, resistência à corrosão e propriedades magnéticas do aço inoxidável AISI 444 foram investigadas. As curvas de endurecimento foram levantadas em função do tempo de envelhecimento nas duas temperaturas, sendo mais rápido e intenso a 475oC. A susceptibilidade à corrosão localizada aumentou e a tenacidade ao impacto diminuiu com o tempo de envelhecimento. Esses dois efeitos também foram mais pronunciados a 475oC. Diferentemente dos aços duplex, o aço AISI 444 não apresentou nenhuma alteração nas propriedades magnéticas (força coerciva ou temperatura Curie). Os efeitos detectados por espectroscopia Mössbauer foram determinados e analisados.

 

The consequences of the aging at 400oC and 475oC on the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and magnetic properties of the ferritic stainless steel AISI 444 were investigated. Age hardening was measured as function of aging time in both temperatures and is found to be more intense at 475oC. The localized corrosion susceptibility increased and the impact toughness decreased with aging time. These two effects were also more important at 475oC. Unlike the duplex stainless steels, the AISI 444 did not present any variation of coercive force or Curie temperature with the aging time. The effects on the Mössbauer spectra were determined and analysed.
