Resumo

Este trabalho investigou a estabilidade térmica, ao ar, dos óxidos presentes em dois diferentes minérios de manganês, A e B. As principais técnicas de caracterização utilizadas foram análise termogravimétrica e difração de raios-X. As amostras foram avaliadas no intervalo de 25°C a 1.100oC, ao ar em fluxo contínuo. Foi possível determinar as temperaturas de início de decomposição para cada um dos minerais estudados. A composição mineralógica de A e B é muito semelhante, ambos apresentando como minerais majoritários a bustamita [(Mn,Ca)3Si3O9], a braunita [(Mn, Si)2O3] e a bixbyita [Mn2O3]. No minério A, a bustamita é estável até 580oC, a braunita e a bixbyita até 900oC. No minério B, a bustamita é estável até 600oC, a braunita e a bixbyita até 950oC.

 

This paper presents a study about thermal stability of oxides in two different manganese ores, called A and B. The main techniques used for characterization were termogravimetry (TGA) and X-Ray diffraction. The minerals phases stability was evaluated between 25 and 1100oC in artificial air, under continuous flow. It was possible to determine the temperatures where decomposition started for the two manganese ores studied. The main mineralogical constituents are the same for A and B. They are bustamite [(Mn,Ca)3Si3O9], braunite [(Mn, Si)2O3] and bixbyite [Mn2O3]. In A ore, the bustamite is stable until 580oC, braunite and bixbyite until 900oC. In B ore, the bustamite is stable until 600oC, and braunite and bixbyite until 950 oC.
