Resumo

O esteatito, comercialmente conhecido como pedra sabão, é uma rocha ornamental que merece muita atenção principalmente nos arredores de Ouro Preto, pois é uma riqueza nesta região. A mineração mantém uma relação difícil com o meio ambiente produzindo-se um grande impacto e geração de resíduos que constituem um problema sério de deposição, mas são atividades compatíveis com o desenvolvimento social e ambiental sustentável, pois apresentam um benefício sócio-econômico evidente. A pedra-sabão tem várias aplicações como na arquitetura e decoração, mas uma das principais características é a sua capacidade térmica, sendo usada amplamente na fabricação de fornos e lareiras, além dos utensílios domésticos. O objetivo do trabalho é apresentar algumas das medidas possíveis para melhorar as condições de produção, de proteção ambiental e principalmente, da permanência da atividade como geração de em prego e renda e, numa segunda instância, de atração turística para a região. A metodologia utilizada foi pesquisa de campo nas regiões produtoras de pedra sabão. Os resultados é o apoio a artesãos que tem como objetivo divulgar a arte e ter o seu reconhecimento.

 

Steatite, commercially known as soap stone is an ornamental rock that deserves attention mainly on the outskirts of Ouro Preto, therefore, it is a wealth in this region. The mining remains a difficult relationship with the environment producing a great impact and generation of waste that is a serious problem of disposal, but activities are compatible with social development and environmental development since they have a clear socio-economic benefit. The soapstone has many applications as in architecture and decoration, but one of the main features is its thermal capacity and is widely used in the manufacture of furnaces and fireplaces, in addition to household items. The objective is to present some of the measures to improve the conditions of production, environmental protection and foremost, the permanence of activity as in employment and generation of income and, in a second instance, the tourist attraction for the region. The methodology was field research in oil producing soap stone. The results are support the craftsman who aims to spread the art and have its recognition.
