Resumo

Durante uma seqüência de lingotamento contínuo, aços com composições químicas diferentes são produzidos com freqüência, o que origina placas de mistura. Na Usiminas, as placas de mistura representam aproximadamente 4% da produção total. Neste trabalho foi desenvolvido um modelo matemático para simular a mistura que ocorre no distribuidor e na parte superior do veio do lingotamento. Baseando neste modelo, pode-se, então, prever o comprimento da placa de mistura gerada. A aplicação deste modelo mostrou que é possível prever o comprimento de mistura em função das diversas variáveis de processo. Além disso, comparou-se o projeto de distribuidor atual da Usiminas com um novo projeto visando avaliar os efeitos na mistura.

 

During a continuous casting sequence, steels with different chemical compositions are frequently produced. This usually generates an intermix slab. At Usiminas, intermix slabs represent approximately 4% of the total steel production. In the present paper, a mathematical model for simulating intermixing in the continuous casting machine was developed. With this model it is possible to predict the length of the intermix slab, giving a better criterion for cutting the slabs. With the model, it is also possible to analyze the effect of different process variables on the formation of the intermix slab. Based on the model predictions, it was demonstrated that the configuration of the tundish, including the presence of flow modifiers, has a significant effect on the intermix length. The level of liquid steel inside the tundish is also an important variable that affects the length of the intermix slab. It is essential to reduce the level of steel in the tundish during steel grade transitions to decrease the length of intermix slabs.
