Abstract
After one year project preparation a major reline of blast furnace 1 of Vallourec & Mannesmann do Brazil was carried out in only 56 days of shutdown. The major scope of the modification included the installation of 3 rows of copper staves, an increased number of new tuyere stocks, a new lock hopper top with an internal rotating hopper and a new supervisory system. The complete cooling system, major parts of the blast furnace shell and uptakes, as well as the bustle pipe have also been replaced. With these modifications an increase of the blast furnace campaign from 4 to 10 years is expected. Due to the application of copper staves the working volume of the furnace has been increased. Together with an increase of the amount of tuyere stocks by 20%, the production capacity increase of about 10% is expected.
