Abstract

Projetado inicialmente como parte integrante das áreas verdes da empresa, o Cinturão Verde da CST ganha vida própria enriquecida pela atividade de animais e plantas, sob a supervisão do homem, transformando-se em importante sistema de controle ambiental e comprovando a capacidade do ser humano de atuar aliado à natureza para preservar o meio ambiente. O desenvolvimento sustentável das áreas verdes da CST reforça a atuação do Cinturão Verde como um sistema de controle ambiental, otimizando suas funções na redução da ação dos ventos sobre as pilhas de estocagem de matérias primas, vias de tráfego e plantas de tratamento de resíduos, propiciando um efetivo controle das emissões fugitivas de poeira destas fontes, em conjunto com os sistemas de aspersão de água adotados nos pátios de estocagem e plantas de tratamento e, sistema de lavagem das vias de tráfego da usina. Em estudo realizado em 2003 pelo instituto de pesquisa Midwest Research Institute – MRI, foi comprovada a eficiência do Cinturão Verde da CST como sistema de controle ambiental através de medições de campo. Conforme os dados das estações meteorológicas do IEMA/SEAMA - órgão ambiental Estadual, em 2003 não ocorreram ventos com velocidade superior a 16,7 m/s, concluindo-se que o sistema de controle ambiental dos pátios de estocagem da CST, cinturão verde e sistema de aspersão de água alcançaram 100 % de eficiência, ou seja, não houve perda de matérias primas pela ação dos ventos.

 

Projected initially as integral part of the green areas of the company, the CST’s Green Belt earns a living enriched by the activity of animals and plants, under the man's supervision, becoming important system of environmental control and proving the human being's capacity of ally to act to the nature to preserve the environment. The sustainable development of the green areas of CST reinforces the performance of the Green belt as a system of environmental control, optimizing their functions in the reduction of the action of the winds on the piles of raw material yards, traffic roads and plants of wastes treatment, providing a effective control of the fugitive emissions of dust in these sources, together with the water spraying system adopted in the stockpiling and treatment plants and system of washing of the traffic roads. In study accomplished in 2003 by the Midwest Research Institute - MRI, was proven the efficiency of the CST’s Green Belt as system of environmental control through field measurements. According to the data of the meteorological stations of IEMA/SEAMA - Environmental Agency of the State, in 2003 didn't happen winds with superior speed to 16,7 m/s, concluding that the environmental control system of CST’s raw material yards, green belt and water spraying system reached 100% of efficiency, in other words, there was not raw material losses for the action of the winds.
