Abstract
With the successful operation of three COREX® Plants at POSCO, JINDAL and SALDANHA the COREX® Process has proven to be the only alternative to the conventional blast furnace technology existing. With the operation experience gained from these plants and further development of the COREX® Process itself, including the optimization of equipment design, the capital investment could be reduced drastically. COREX® is successfully fighting against its image (allegedly “expensive process”, “high production cost”, ...), as the lowered investment cost, the increased productivity, the introduction of alternative lower cost raw materials, and further concepts for the use of the COREX® export gas, all contribute to boost the economy of this technology.
