Abstract

Este trabalho tem por objetivo demonstrar como uma tecnologia de rede originalmente desenvolvida em laboratórios para a comunicação entre computadores se desenvolveu a ponto de se tornar o padrão de rede industrial que mais cresce na atualidade, desbancando tradicionais e confiáveis soluções de comunicação. Por se tratar de um padrão aberto e de grande aceitação, diversos fabricantes se envolveram no desenvolvimento da tecnologia original de maneira a adaptá-la às necessidades de comunicação dos sistemas de automação industrial. Os resultados desta busca generalizada por melhor relação entre custo e benefício podem ser medidos pelo avanço estatisticamente comprovado da Ethernet como meio de troca de dados entre dispositivos de controle e supervisão industriais. Ganham os usuários finais, pelos menores custos, maior sinergia entre sistemas industriais e por não mais estarem vinculados a um único fornecedor, ganham os integradores de sistemas por trabalharem com um padrão de rede aberto e extremamente flexível, assim como os próprios fabricantes pelo contínuo aprimoramento da tecnologia, barateando custos.

 

This paper aims to demonstrate how a technology originally concepted for communication between computers evolved until becoming the networking standard with the highest growing rates in industry today, beating traditional and trusted communication solutions. Because it is an open standard and widely accepted, several manufacturers engaged in the development of the original technology in order to adapt it to the communication needs of industrial automation systems. The results of generalized search for a better relationship between cost and benefit can be measured by the statistically proven increase of Ethernet as a means of exchanging data between industrial control and supervision devices. End-users are favored by lower costs, greater synergy between industrial systems and for no longer being tied to one only supplier, systems integrators are favored by working with an open-standard and extremely flexible network and the manufacturers themselves by continually improving the technology, lowering costs.
