Abstract
With increasing requirements in ladle metallurgy, inert gas blowing systems have become essential for clean steel production. These systems aim to promote rapid homogenization of the molten steel and efficient separation of deoxidation products. Purging plugs are widely used in Europe, offering different configurations such as porous and directed porosity types depending on process needs. Their performance depends on resistance to thermal, chemical, and mechanical stresses, as well as operational conditions like gas flow and pressure. Proper installation, maintenance, and safety devices are critical to ensure efficiency, longevity, and safe operation. The selection of purging plug type must consider both technical and economic factors to optimize steel treatment processes.
