Abstract

Automatic surface inspection systems for steel strip are now recognized by the majority of steel manufacturers as being vital to the efficient, cost effective production of high quality steel strip. Parsytec has installed and commissioned close to 100 systems since 1997 and this experience has led to significant refinement of the technology. One of the major requirements when installing an automatic surface inspection system is that the system must deliver benefits as soon as possible. Early systems took a long time to reach a stage where reliable detection and classification of surface defects was achieved. To address this problem Parsytec has developed new methods and released new software to speed up the commissioning and fine-tuning of their automatic surface inspection systems. ln this paper the new methods will be discussed and the latest software toais will be demonstrated.
