Abstract
Samples of ABNT 4340 and 1020 steel were magnetron sputtering coated with titanium films and tested with electrochemical scan to evaluate the corrosion behavior of the layers. It was noted that there is an improvement in the potentiodynamic scan of the samples, indicating that the Ti coating increases the corrosion resistance of the steel surface. However, the presence of pinholes in the titanium layers compromises the best performance of the layers. The electrochemical test can be used as a quality control method for the coating.
