Abstract
The paper charts the history of gas cleaning systems for Blast Furnaces, leading to the current design of annular gap scrubbers. The development of the Vai-Davy single-cone wet scrubber is analysed, including various different conversions of older types of gas cleaning equipment. This leads to a description of the technical and process problems encountered during the development of the “Davy Cone”, and the solutions that have been engineered and implemented. The concerns regarding a single-cone scrubber are addressed, and a comparison of single-cone and multiple-cone systems is given. The latest design of the Davy Cone annular gap scrubber, for use with high top pressure blast furnaces with coal injection is described.
