Abstract

The application of compacted charging to the by-product and/or heat recovery coke making technologies has proven its economical attractiveness. When operating by-product or heat recovery ovens with a compacted oven charge, advantages are gained in investment cost, operational costs, input material costs, and coke quality. Compacted charging is ecologically feasible for both coke making processes. VeCon Stamp-Charging Technology is a modern and proven coking technology and can fulfil all requirements of a coking plant today and in future. Thanks to the technologies for environmental protection developed over the last years, VeCon Stamp-Charging Technology meets any environmental requirements and regulations throughout the world. The Compacted Charging Technology allows producing high-strength blast furnace coke; this coke has an excellent performance in the blast furnace allowing high coal injection rates while at the total reducing agent consumption is extremely low. Producing high-quality coke from a wide range of charge coals including low rank coals, petrol coke and coke breeze is another advantage of compacted charging. An excellent coke quality requires a careful selection of the blend components. In this regard, compacted charging provides for a high degree of flexibility and at the same time creates a considerable savings potential on the side of raw material costs which have a very positive impact on the coke production costs and consequently, on the pig iron cost. The advantages explained before have been realised by many coking plants and are being used all over the world. The new development and application of compacted charging to the heat recovery technology contributes to a high degree to the economical and ecological feasibility of the heat recovery process. Compacted charging is a winning alternative for economical and eco-friendly coke making!
