Abstract

With the necessity of increasing the productivity of Blast Furnaces, it has been necessary the raising of quality levels of the production coke at COSIPA. Chemical, Physical and Metallurgical Specification changes have shown the necessity of sharing reduction of weak coals and changes in the coal blend to coke, not only in terms of type but also in terms of source. During this period, chinese coals became available in a more effective manner. Changes planning has become harder, due to cost variations and availability in international markets in terms of coals from several sources, as well as oscillations in the long distance market freight. This presentation shows the evolution of coal blend compositions and coke quality during the last years. It also shows the evolution of Coal Blend towards PCI, after the implementation of the blend station in September 2002.
