Abstract

Standard UHP graphite electrodes for EAF have reached an extremely high technical, environmental and exchangeable standard. Only limited possibilities for further optimization exist. The use of coated “SUHP” graphite electrodes can reduce the specific consumption within a remarkable range both for melting and especially for ladle furnaces. The production of UHP-electrodes, nipples and especially of coated SUHP electrodes is described. The improvements of the operating properties of SUHP electrodes compared with uncoated UHP electrodes is shown.
