Abstract
The most recent developments made at ARVEDI works demonstrate the extensive technological potential of the ISP process. At ARVEDI, the production of ultrathin hot strip has been successfully established on a commercial basis. Based on the experience of the hot strip production at the ARVEDI ISP plant in Italy, ISP concepts for high productivity and high quality have been developed. Each of these concepts possesses specific advantages and serves for given markets. The mill supplied to IPSCO, USA is a combined casting and rolling facility for a production of around 1 million tons of plates and hot rolled strip. The ISP facility for POSCO, Republic of Korea is designed for an annual production of two million tonnes of strip in ultrathin dimensions and of highest quality for deep drawing applications. End of 1995, SALDANHA STEEL in South Africa ordered a thin-slab-cast-rolling facility for an annual production of 1.4 million tonnes per strand. The HOOGOVENS STEEL works in The Netherlands ordered end of 1997 a 1-strand ISP facility for the production of approximately 1.5 million tonnes per year of hot rolled strip in dimensions of 1 to 2.5 mm. The ISP concepts established worldwide are marking innovative steps towards the production of thinnest hot strip gauges with a quality suitable to replace cold rolled strip applications.
