Abstract
The present paper describes the morphology of the metallic iron phase formed in self-reducing agglomerates containing hematite ore and mineral coal. It was possible to verify that three types of iron morphology may occur during the process, depending on the test temperature: an external dense and continuous iron layer; iron globules at the briquette’s core; and the coexistence of whiskers and globules of metallic iron at the transition zone. The measurement of the carbon content on the globules and on the external iron layer for different tests temperature and gaseous environment, is also presented.
