Abstract

The new steelwork at Monteforno in Giornico (Canton Tessin), Switzerland, was commissioned in May 1985 with an 85 t EAF, which at the beginning was driven by a 50 MVA transformer and got an 80 MVA transformer in August 1985. The furnace is equipped with an eccentric bottom tapping hole. The melting and tap-to-tap times are extremely short. The steelwork-equipment is described. The results of the operation are compared with the former datas. Some new aspects of the equipment are mentioned.
