Abstract

Silica nanoparticles stand out for their versatility and ease of chemical modification, enabling the creation of nanometric roughness essential for high contact angles. This study investigated how different surface roughness conditions of AA7075 aluminum influence the hydrophobicity of films of nanosilica functionalized with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (POTS). Different mechanical and chemical preparation methods were applied prior to coating deposition, and hydrophobic efficiency was evaluated through contact angle measurements and characterization by SEM/EDS and digital microscopy. Results show that samples with greater roughness, especially those subjected to etching and phosphating, exhibited higher contact angles after deposition, confirming that the interaction between topography and chemical functionalization is decisive in enhancing hydrophobicity.
