Abstract
Due to the evolution of global electrification, the demand in transmission networks for materials with greater efficiency, high electrical conductivity, and mechanical strength has grown. This article analyzed the influence of adding 0.3% Ni and annealing at 300 °C for 2 hours on the electrical and mechanical properties of the Al-0.5%Si alloy. The alloys were melted, solidified in a metal mold, and subjected to chemical and macrostructural analyses. After machining, the billets were cold-rolled to produce 3 mm diameter wires. Subsequently, samples with and without heat treatment were subjected to electrical conductivity and tensile tests. The results showed that the addition of Ni promoted changes in the initial macrostructure and stabilization of the electrical and mechanical properties. The electrical conductivity increased after annealing, reaching 66.33% IACS in the alloy with Ni at 300 °C. In the tensile test, the Al-0.5%Si-0.3%Ni alloy showed a reduction of only 17.81% (from 254.23 to 208.94 MPa). It is observed that the addition of Ni favors the maintenance of mechanical properties at high temperatures without compromising electrical conductivity, indicating potential for application in HTLS (High-Temperature Low-Sag) conductors.
