Abstract
THE ESG (ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE) AGENDA, WIDELY DISCUSSED WORLDWIDE, REQUIRES COMPANIES TO HAVE A NEW WAY OF MANAGING THEIR BUSINESSES, WITH SUSTAINABILITY BEING THE MAIN OBJECTIVE TO BE ACHIEVED. IN THIS CONTEXT, ISSUES RELATED TO THE ENVIRONMENT, IN TERMS OF REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS, ARE A MAJOR CHALLENGE IMPOSED ON THE BRAZILIAN STEEL SECTOR. THE ENERGY MATRIX OF THE INTEGRATED STEEL MILL HAS LARGELY NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES, AND THEREFORE IT IS NECESSARY TO ACT STRATEGICALLY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PLANS FOR THE DECARBONIZATION AND ENERGY TRANSITION OF THE SECTOR. IN THE SHORT TERM VIEW, ENERGY EFFICIENCY PLAYS A FUNDAMENTAL ROLE, IN ADDITION TO CONTRIBUTING TO THE REDUCTION OF ENERGY COSTS BY PROMOTING GAINS IN COMPETITIVENESS, IT PRESENTS ITSELF AS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS. USIMINAS IS STRONGLY COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY AND HAS DEVELOPED A MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ORIENTED TOWARDS ENERGY EFFICIENCY, USING AS A REFERENCE ISO 50.001:2018, WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF PROCESSES, WITH SOLUTIONS ORIENTED TO BEST PRACTICES, INCORPORATING ENGINEERING PROJECTS FOR DECARBONIZATION AND INCREASING THE SHARE OF RENEWABLE SOURCES IN ITS ENERGY MATRIX.
