Abstract

When magnetite iron ores are reduced by hydrogen gas, Fe film is easily formed and prevents the reducing gas from coming into contact with iron oxide. Instead of hydrogen gas, CO+H2 containing gas can be more favor to enhance of the iron ore reduction because carburization gas can induce iron carbide formation on Fe layer. However, it is meta-stable compound and thus easily decomposed to graphite. It is found that suppression of the graphitization by addition of H2S gas induces the open structure of the magnetite concentrates to aid its reduction.
