Abstract

A demanda por aços inoxidáveis austeníticos, assim como aços ligados ao níquel, vem se mostrando cada vez mais intensa face ao período de aceleração do crescimento econômico global observado nos últimos anos. Em consonância com este cenário, diversos projetos para instalação de novas usinas de produção de níquel via processo pirometalúrgico vêm sendo aprovados, assim como projetos contemplando aumento da capacidade produtiva de operações existentes. Desta forma, torna-se cada vez mais nítida a necessidade de se otimizar processos, reduzindo-se tempo e custo. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar os resultados dos testes em escala industrial realizados na Anglo American Brasil – Codemin com o intuito de otimizar o processo de dessulfuração da liga ferroníquel através da utilização de agentes dessulfurantes por injeção profunda com nitrogênio, analogamente ao que é praticado atualmente em diversos processos siderúrgicos, em parceria com a empresa Tecnosulfur. Para isso, foi instalada uma planta-piloto de dessulfuração na unidade de refino metalúrgico da liga, através da qual foram testadas diversas composições de agentes dessulfurantes e diferentes ajustes de parâmetros operacionais de injeção. Os resultados obtidos mostram que é possível atingir redução do tempo de corrida, e aumento da taxa de dessulfuração.

 

The high demand for austenitic stainless steel, as well as Ni alloy steel can be experienced recently due to acceleration of global economic growth. In this context, many projects for new Nickel operations plants have been approved as well as increase capacity projects for pyrometallurgical treatment of Nickel ore. For this reason, it is clearly observed the strategic necessity of processes optimization, reducing times, costs and adding value to the final product. The objective of this paper is to show the results of industrial scale tests carried out at Anglo American – Codemin aiming the optimization of the dusulphurization of ferronickel alloy through the submerged injection of desulphurizing agents with nitrogen, analogous to how it is made in siderurgical process, in partnership with Tecnosulfur. The results has shown that it is possible to achieve reduction in tap-to- tap time, as well as improvements in desulphurization rates.
