Abstract
The development of iron ore mines has been actively performed due to the drain of high-quality iron ore deposits under mining and a great demand for iron ores. However, as the development was started from the high quality deposits, the quality of iron ores is in a tendency of deterioration, and the fundamental properties of iron ores have been going in a direction that is not desirable. The granulation and sintering process in the production of pellets or sinter and the fundamental ore properties influencing them were first explained, and then the methods for testing ores were introduced, showing the examples of test results. The tests have been used not only for clarifying fundamental properties but also improving or developing commercial processes, though the test sample volume is small. It was considered very important for sustaining individual prosperity of suppliers and users of iron ores to well know the future change and scattering in the ore properties and share the knowledge to each other.
