Abstract

The knowledge of phenomenon and burden’s characteristics that affect its behavior in the softening and melting zone is fundamental for performance’s optimization of blast furnace. In this context and considering the interest in developing specific metallic burden for blast furnaces using Usiminas own ore; the lump ore extinction, which requires more elaborate metallic burden for blast furnaces; and the cohesive zone region importance, particularly under high productivity and low fuel rate; Usiminas invested in technology for evaluating the behavior of the metallic burden at high temperature. This paper presents a brief description of the equipment purchased by Usiminas and some results of lump ore, sinter and pellet.
