Abstract
12% ferritic stainless steels are of common use in car exhaust systems. More demanding service conditions and longer service lives will require higher performance materials. The present article describes two high alloy ferritic steels, designed to meet the hot end and cold end service conditions (high temperature strength, oxidation and/or corrosion resistance) as well as the fabricability requirements of high productivity welding and forming processes, covered up to now by more expensive austenitic steels.
