Abstract
Effects of adding SiO₂ or Al₂O₃ as additives on the viscosity and on the surface tension of calcium ferrite melts, CaO·Fe₂O₃ (CF) and CaO·2Fe₂O₃ (CF₂), have been examined and the effects of SiO₂ and Al₂O₃ addition on the melt formation rate in calcium ferrite system were also investigated. The viscosity of calcium ferrite melts was increased, and the surface tension of calcium ferrite melts was decreased with increase the contents of SiO₂ or Al₂O₃. At the same content of additive oxide, the addition of Al₂O₃ was more effective for increasing the viscosity than the addition of SiO₂. On the contrary, the addition of SiO₂ was more effective for decreasing the surface tension than the addition of Al₂O₃. The effect of SiO₂ addition on the formation rate of molten calcium ferrite was affected that it added to CF rather than CF₂. The effect of Al₂O₃ addition on the formation rate of molten calcium ferrite was affected that it added to CF rather than CF₂. The softening and melting rates of sample in CF system were also larger than that of sample in CF₂ system.
