Abstract
This paper summarizes our continued development efforts and improved offerings in Electric Arc Furnace switching solutions, including improvements in quality, life expectancy and reliability. The unique POW technology discussed below, as well as the predictive processes and upgrades outlined, offer a fairly comprehensive approach to predictive maintenance and minimizing the uncertainty involved in determining vacuum interrupter replacement. Further, if followed as a process, these steps offer significant benefits in maximizing production time. The primary benefits analysed are: 1 - Significant reduction of closing transients associated with furnace transformer switching using the Point of Wave - POW Control; 2 - Increase in life expectancy for the EAF Transformer and other system components; 3 - Continuous (real time) Monitoring of load side of the VBT switch for residual voltages when the switch is open, allowing for automatic alarm signal to be generated for the Furnace Operator or other protective devices; 4 - Reduction of Maintenance time losses, increasing plant/process up time resulting in Production Increase; 5 - Non-invasive monitoring recommendations.
