Abstract
The MDH-built Horizontal Continuous Caster of Boschgotthardshütte in Siegen has been developed to operational maturity that complies with the requirements of modern steel mills. Thus, the next step toward further progress was the implementation of a multi-strand plant. This development incorporated the demands of Near Net Shape Technology, resulting in a multi-strand HCC with a compact mould capable of casting dimensions ranging from 60 to 150 mm. Key features include high flexibility regarding: product sizes number of strands steel grades Additionally, a new tundish concept has been introduced, offering advantages such as reduced refractory consumption. The closed-loop process control allows for hot charging of the cast material directly into downstream production facilities.
