Abstract
The great importance of the control of the central flow in the modern blast furnace operation, especially under a high coal injection rate condition, has been acknowledged from the point of view of the operational performance as well as the extension of its useful life. Noticeably, the central gas flow of large Blast Furnaces, with double bell type top is very difficult to control. Aiming at improving the central gas flow control and bearing in mind the challenge of the 25-year campaign of CST’s No 1 Blast Furnace, the Company decided for the implementation of a system called central coke feeding, which allows the charging of defined coke quantities in the center of the Blast Furnace throat, improving the operational stability. This paper shows the results obtained with the implementation of this system.
