Abstract

A new generation of rolling mills and changed rolling technologies have helped to roll hot strip with decreasing thickness; today's world record (to our knowledge) for "standard of production" is 0.91 mm! This development required improved rolls concerning wear resistance and safety against spalling due to normal rolling accidents. The answers are: HSS for the early stands, carbide-enhanced ICDP for the finishing stands of hot strip mills and for steckel mills, and high strength interface/transition zone (between shell and nodular iron core material) for all ICDP rolls.
