Abstract
Advances in direct reduction (DR) technologies have resulted in increasing reduction temperatures in commercial operations. Standardized laboratory reduction testing is based on lower operating temperatures and may not adequately reflect performance under current conditions. Improvements in the test equipment and procedures at the Midrex Technology Center have been made to address this and other issues. In addition, increased analytical capabilities using updated technologies (e.g., ICP, XRF, and XRD) will be described, as well as the implications for enhanced ironmaking research.
