Abstract
After a restructuring process of the steel industry in the Rhine/Ruhr region in the last ten years, ThyssenKrupp Stahl is today in an excellent situation to produce up to 12 million t hot metal in one integrated plant. This presentation will focus on the evolution of ironmaking practice at TKS and highlight the main aspects to optimise the hot metal costs: Raw material logistics at ThyssenKrupp Stahl; New coke oven plant and the quality requirements for coke; Sinter plant and the requirements for ferrous burden materials; The blast furnaces at ThyssenKrupp Stahl; The operational experiences of the TKS blast furnaces; Zero waste concept; Blast furnace hot metal production – further outlook.
