Abstract

El aumento de la producción, confiabilidad operativa y versatilidad de la Colada Continua de Desbastes de SIDERAR (CCD) para adaptarse a distintos tipos de productos con sus diferentes velocidades de colado, no sólo ha sido logrado en parte por la repotenciación de sus sistemas de enfriamiento, sino que también por la reorganización y racionalización del uso del agua de enfriamiento secundario y como así también con la incorporación de una serie de desarrollos tecnológicos propios que significan una innovación en este tipo de instalaciones. En tal sentido se obtuvieron beneficios de versatilidad en cuanto poder ajustarse a un amplio rango de cambios de velocidades de colado de acuerdo a las distintas secciones (anchos y espesores) y también para colar distintas calidades de acero.

 

SIDERAR slab continuous casting was first started up in the year 1985 in order to produce slab of structural, low carbon, tin plate and API steel Grades, being the nominal capacity of design arranged for a production of 650.000 Tn/year. From the year 1993 on, a continuous and steady increase of production levels is carried out and reaches 2,400,000 Tones by the year 2002. One of the main reasons that allowed an increase in production was a casting speed growth from 1.40 m/min to 1.85 m/min for a 200 mm thickness. At first, this was possible due to an enlargement of its metallurgical length. Its original length was of 19,662 mm and currently is of 23,262 mm. Secondly; this was possible due to the modifications in its secondary cooling system. Some of the actions taken on such cooling system varies from the rationalisation, the re-powering, the set-up distribution change and the secondary spray nozzles selection as well as the introduction of a series of technological developments of our own, which implies an innovation respect to this type of facilities. The technological developments of our own that can be pointed out are as follows: a) Flow-Dynamic modelling, b) Implementation of Booster Pumps driven by variable frequency motors that allow a proper set-up to a large flow range, c) Pulsing flow technology in order to replace low flows, d) Dynamic control of clogged nozzles and flow leaks. Similar versatility benefits were achieved in the sense of being able to run a wide range of casting speed changes respect to the different sections (width and thickness) by means of another type of solutions that are different from the ones which are normally implemented in these cases, such as the implementation of costly Air-Mist systems.
