Abstract
The mass production of high quality IF steel is one of the most difficult tasks for steelmaking engineers. The reduction of excessive oxygen in the molten steel and slag to get steel cleanliness deteriorates the decarburization rate. The slow casting speed to prevent inclusion and mold powder from being entrapped in the casting strand decreases productivity. To solve these problems, the integrated process based on hot metal pre-treatment, oxygen control with the RH-KTB and steel flow control in a mold of continuous casting has been established at Mizushima Works of Kawasaki Steel. In this paper, the technologies of oxygen control and steel flow control in a mold will be discussed.
