Abstract
Iron and steelmaking generate a variety of solid by-products, liquids and gaseous in expressive amounts. These by-products request treatment and adequate disposal, unless it can cause serious damages to life and to the environment. Consequently it is increasing the need for the reduction of the generation and appropriate disposal of those residues. This paper shows an approach on the evaluation and selection of possible techniques used in the treatment and recycling of residues containing iron generated in Blast Furnace and BOF steelmaking of an integrated steelwork. The technical and economical aspects involved in the choice and application of the existing technologies for reutilization and recycling of those residues are analyzed.
