Abstract
Metallurgical characterization can be defined as the characterization of burden materials under conditions prevailing during ironmaking. These tests are used not only for product certification but also for guiding R&D efforts. When it is required to improve selected pellet properties, it becomes important to understand the reduction mechanisms that occur during metallurgical tests in order to select the most appropriate modification. Using a methodology successfully developed to understand pellet induration, COREM proposes here a new way to investigate pellets under partial reduction. This paper will review two static reduction tests and show how mineralogy can be applied to examine the pellet behaviour during reduction.
