Abstract

Various papers on the history, process design and application of intensive quenching have been presented previously. In this discussion, a brief overview of those earlier publications will be provided. However, the particular focus of this work will be on the quench severity criterion, metallurgy, and the mechanism of forming the high surface compressive stresses is discussed.
