Abstract

A simulação pelo método dos elementos discretos (DEM) é acoplada à mecânica dos fluidos computacional (CFD) para descrever o comportamento dos corpos moedores e da polpa no interior do moinho de carga agitada piloto, e assim, somado ao modelo mecanicista de moagem UFRJ, avaliar o efeito da velocidade do agitador, da vazão de polpa, da porcentagem de sólidos e da alimentação na moagem de um moinho de carga agitada. O moinho de carga agitada piloto foi descrito considerando três misturadores perfeitos iguais ligados em série acoplados a um classificador interno, em uma simulação acoplada DEM-CFD-DPM. Todas as variáveis promoveram mudanças significativas nos produtos simulados. Entretanto, apesar dessa abordagem mostrar claramente a influência de algumas condições operacionais sobre a classificação, foi demonstrado que a classificação apenas se mostrou significativa quando a percentagem de sólidos da polpa foi mais baixa e a distribuição granulométrica da alimentação mais grossa.

 

Simulation using the discrete element method (DEM) coupled to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to describe the behavior of the grinding media and the slurry inside the pilot stirred mill, and thus, added to the UFRJ mechanistic grinding model, assess the effects of the agitator speed, slurry flowrate, percentage of solids and feed size distribution in grinding. The pilot stirred mill has been described using three equally-sized perfect mixers connected in series coupled to an internal classifier, which is described by means of DEM-CFD-DPM. All variables promoted significant changes in the size distribution of the product. However, although this approach demonstrated the influence of some operational conditions on classification, it is shown that the classification effect is significant only when the percentage of solids in the slurry is low and the size distribution was coarser.
